Caregiver stress is real. Caregiver to Caregiver support is important. This purpose of this Blog is to destress and to Share.
Well, this is quite an opening!
Hello. Let me introduce myself. I am a Caregiver to my Aunt who is in Assisted Living/Memory Care. She was living independently until August 2020. A fall sent her to hospital, to rehab and to Assisted Living. When I say independent, it is a bit of a stretch. For at least a year the facts were appearing. It was becoming increasingly clear that some form of help would be needed in the near future. By July 2020, PT and OT was ordered and the rehab professionals came to the home. A trusted (or so I thought, but that is another story) person came over once or twice a week as a companion. My family and I were there twice a week and we spoke twice a day. We still speak twice daily and Zoom weekly. Recently, visitation has resumed! We visit on Sunday in her apartment. Good News. Bad News is visit limit is 30 minutes. Do you know how fast 30 minutes is? Fast. I can have up to 3 visits weekly. In June, we will visit 2 x week. Currently, family only, 2 persons each visit. This choice is easy. I am the only close family. We are hoping this relaxes soon.
This is a capsule version of my recent story. There is a lot of back story. It has not all been a bed of roses. I have learned important lessons along the way. Never judge others unless you know the entire story.
Enjoy your evening.
